An attempt by some candidates to cheat during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was foiled after an invigilator reportedly overheard and exposed their plan.

According to reports, the students were plotting ways to exchange answers during the exam when the vigilant invigilator picked up their conversation. Acting swiftly, the official reported the matter to the examination authorities, preventing the malpractice from taking place.

Education stakeholders have praised the invigilator’s action, describing it as a necessary step to safeguard the integrity of the examination process. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has repeatedly warned candidates against engaging in exam malpractice, stressing that offenders risk disqualification, cancellation of results and legal action.

The incident serves as another reminder of WAEC’s strict stance on examination integrity and the crucial role of invigilators in curbing malpractice.
