Nigeria has six geopolitical zones. These zones were created to help with political, economic and administrative planning. Each zone groups states with similar ethnic, cultural and historical backgrounds.

The six geopolitical zones are:

1. North Central

2. North East

3. North West

4. South East

5. South South

6. South West

Each zone consists of several states and plays a unique role in Nigeria’s diversity and development.
