The Traveler’s Gate

A traveler stood before a gate that only opened once every seven years. "I have lost everything," he wailed to the gatekeeper. "My youth, my wealth, and my home."

The gatekeeper leaned on his staff and pointed at the path behind the man. "Look closely," he said.

The path was littered with seeds the man had dropped while running. Behind him, a forest was growing where there had once been a desert.

"You didn't lose your life," the gatekeeper whispered, "you just planted it for the person walking behind you."
