The Great Oak’s Memory
The oak tree watched the village for three hundred years. It saw a young man propose under its branches; it saw his grandson cut a branch for a cradle; and eventually, it saw the lightning strike that turned its own ancient trunk into firewood for the village’s winter. As the smoke rose into the clouds, it turned into rain that watered a tiny acorn nestled in the ashes of the old stump. The tree didn't die; it just changed its shape.
