The Silent Protest
The law forbade shouting in the square. It forbade signs, banners, and gatherings of more than three. So, the people went to the square alone, at different times, and simply stood still, looking at the sun. You cannot legislate the direction of a human gaze, and in that silence, they were more ungovernable than a riot.
