A poem about The reality of life

A Lone Man

I woke to the warm touch of morning light,

Feeding through my mother’s milk.

Little did I know of the world;

My only desire was to fill my belly.

Without vision, I grew with time

No reason, no passion, no clear path.

My only joy was to watch the sunsets

And greet the morning sunrise.

As youth came, I felt a stirring within,

A space deep in my soul,

One that bread could never fill,

A burden that kept me awake at night.

Seeing the hearts of men, I doubted love.

I never yielded to it,

For I knew the cost

Once broken, it cannot be repaired.

I drowned myself in wine,

Satisfied my fleshly lusts,

Yet the more I drank,

The thirstier I became.

At the height of my days, I saw my flaws

The wasted years,

The time spent chasing the wind,

Living without the sense of true life.

In all I did, I felt the void,

The hole within my soul.

In my weary body, I knew I had failed.

The love I sought, I found in none.

With all my wealth, I sit in tears.

I wish I had found true riches.

I wish I had filled this void.

I wish I had thirsted for more.

Life is like the wind

A gentle, passing breath.

You know not where it comes from,

It only moves through,

Often when least expected.

Yet Jesus still gives life its meaning.

Though I have lost much, I am glad I found Him.

And on my dying bed, I can say:

A lone man was I, but I'm not Alone
