The Jury of Shadows
He was acquitted of the crime by twelve peers in a wood-paneled room. The law was satisfied. But when he returned home, the shadows in the corners of his house refused to move. The Law had let him go, but Justice—quiet, cold, and private—remained sitting in his favorite chair, waiting for an apology he hadn't given.
