Former Wrestler Turned Catholic Priest Fights Hunger By Supporting Orphanage

A Catholic priest who once stepped into the wrestling ring has captured hearts with his unusual path to priesthood and his ongoing commitment to feeding orphans.

Reverend Father Jean-Marc Ela, a former professional wrestler, shocked many when he traded the ring for the robes, answering a call to serve the Church. Even as a priest, he didn’t abandon his fighting spirit, he simply redirected it.

Moved by the plight of vulnerable children in his community, Fr. Ela began supporting a local orphanage through physical challenges and fundraising initiatives inspired by his wrestling past. He’s known to participate in charity bouts, host strength-based challenges and even auction wrestling memorabilia, all to raise money for food, clothing and school fees for orphans.

His story has gone viral on social media, with many praising him as “a fighter in and out of the ring.” For Fr. Ela, it’s all about living out the gospel in action: “Wrestling taught me discipline. Priesthood taught me compassion. I’m just using both to feed the future.”
