Through the Tears, We Still Believe

It had been six years of marriage filled with dreams, prayers and endless hope. Dayo and Amara had waited patiently for a child, trusting God through each cycle of expectation and disappointment. When Amara finally conceived, it was as though the heavens had opened just for them. Their joy was unspeakable, the baby they had prayed for was on the way.

Every ultrasound, every flutter, every kick was a miracle. Family and friends joined them in celebration, calling the baby Testimony. It felt like the wait had only made this blessing sweeter. But then, in a single, unimaginable moment, joy gave way to sorrow. At eight months pregnant, Amara noticed the baby wasn’t kicking. A visit to the hospital turned into a blur of white coats, hushed voices and machines that fell silent. The heartbeat was gone.

The loss was a storm that shattered everything. Amara cried until her voice gave way to silence and Dayo tried to be strong even as his own world fell apart. The empty nursery, the tiny clothes that would never be worn and the cradle they had assembled with love all became painful reminders of what could have been. Friends came and went. Some didn’t know what to say. Others offered verses and sympathy. Most nights, it was just the two of them and the weight of grief. Still, in the darkest hours, when they had no more prayers left, something deeper held them together. Faith.

“We will see Testimony again,” Dayo whispered one night, holding Amara close. “This is not the end.”

They clung to each other and to God, not with the loud faith of celebration, but with the quiet faith of survival. The kind that trusts even when there’s no understanding. The kind that holds on when all you want to do is let go.

With time, their tears began to water something new: peace. A peace that didn’t erase the pain but sat with it. A peace that reminded them that God’s love had not abandoned them. They still set a place in their hearts for Testimony. Not as a memory to bury, but as a life that mattered. A child they will always love.

They continue to hope. Not just for another child, but for the kind of healing that only heaven can give. They grieve and still believe.
