Unveiling the Spiritual Meaning of Circumcision : ✝️ Christianity (S3)

Christianity: A Spiritual Circumcision?

Christian views on circumcision are complex

and divided.

• Old Testament roots: Christianity shares its foundational texts with Judaism, where circumcision was required.

• New Testament shift: The Apostle Paul, especially in the Book of Galatians and Romans, argued that:

“Circumcision is not outward and physical… but a matter of the heart.”

• Theological change: For Christians, the physical act was replaced by spiritual circumcision : a metaphor for purity of the heart, not the body.

• Modern practice: While not religiously required, some Christians still circumcise for cultural or health reasons : especially in the U.S., Africa and parts of Europe.

For many denominations, circumcision is now seen as a personal or cultural decision, not a religious obligation.
