In Nigeria, many women find it difficult to walk away from toxic relationships, even when those relationships are draining them emotionally and mentally.
Some stay because they still love him. Others are afraid of losing the man they have invested so much time in, starting over, or being judged for leaving.
They keep hoping he will change, making excuses for his behaviour and sacrificing their happiness just to keep the relationship alive.
But at what point does love become a reason to lose yourself?
Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya once shared her experience of enduring years of physical and emotional abuse in her marriage, which affected her mental health. She eventually found the courage to leave and begin her healing journey.
Her story reminds us that leaving a toxic relationship is not a sign of weakness. Sometimes, it is the first step towards finding yourself again.
LET'S TALK, LADIES:
Have you ever stayed in a relationship that was draining you because of love or fear of losing him?
What would you tell a woman going through the same experience?
Your heart matters. Your mental health matters. You deserve love that brings peace, not pain.
