COURT DECLINES TO VARY NASIR -EL RUFSAI'S BAIL CONDITIONS

The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has declined to vary the bail conditions of the former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai who is standing trial before it.

Justice Rilwanu Aikawa gave the order in an interlocutory application seeking variation in the bail condition

In this matter, El-rufai is being prosecuted on a –nine count- charge by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC).

On April 14, the trial judge, Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, had granted to the defendant who is standing trial on alleged corruption and abuse of office.

Justice Aikawa admitted Nasir El-Rufai to bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties in like sum.

The court, however, ordered that the defendant remains in ICPC custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

Among the conditions, the sureties are required to deposit their international passports with the court.

The court also ordered that one of the sureties must be a serving civil servant not below grade level 15, while the other must be a recognised traditional ruler.

These are the conditions the defendant was asking for variation to be able to meet. The court adjourned the matter to 1st of June 2026 for continuation of trial.
