As reported by Daily Post on April 2, 2026, Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has emphasized that direct engagement with underprivileged and violent groups remains the most practical path to addressing Nigeria’s persistent insecurity crisis.

Gumi, known for his consistent advocacy for dialogue over confrontation, stressed that outreach to marginalized communities and insurgents is crucial for achieving lasting peace.

“In 2021, I took the bull by the horns to bring some of these terrorists back to our fold rather than letting them be exploited by the devil," Gumi recalled, highlighting his hands-on efforts to mediate between the state and armed groups.

He reiterated that abandoning such individuals to violence and criminal influences only exacerbates instability and leaves communities more vulnerable to attacks.

The cleric further reinforced his stance, stating, “I still believe this is the only way out of our predicament." By focusing on rehabilitation and constructive dialogue rather than purely military measures, Gumi argues that Nigeria can create avenues for reintegration, reduce radicalization, and ultimately restore security while addressing the root causes of vîolênce.

This approach, he insists, remains a necessary component of any effective national strategy.
