Sahara Group has implored students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to take the lead in Africa’s energy transition by developing innovative solutions.

The group made the call on Wednesday during the energy transition 360° (ET360) programme organised by the UNILAG Energy Club.

The event, which brought together industry leaders, academics, policymakers introduced students to Sahara Group’s Beyond XXX vision aimed at inspiring future innovators, entrepreneurs and sustainability champions.

Ejiro Gray, Sahara Group’s director of governance and sustainability, said Africa’s energy future would be determined by the willingness of young people to create practical solutions that improve energy access and drive sustainable development.

“Beyond XXX is rooted in the belief that every generation has a responsibility to expand the possibilities available to the next,” she said.

“Africa’s energy future will be shaped by bold thinkers, innovative problem-solvers and purpose-driven leaders. The continent needs young people who are willing to develop solutions that improve energy access, promote sustainability and create shared prosperity.”

Gray said Sahara’s continued partnership with UNILAG reflects the company’s belief that education, innovation and entrepreneurship are essential to achieving sustainable development.

She added that the company’s investment in student-focused initiatives is designed to equip young people with the skills required to drive Africa’s energy transition.

Also speaking, Emilomo Arorote, group head of human resources at Sahara Group, urged students to adopt a growth mindset and prepare for a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.

Arorote urged students to embrace entrepreneurship and innovation as pathways to creating jobs, unlocking economic opportunities and supporting long-term growth across the continent.

“The future belongs to individuals who can continuously learn, adapt and create value. Beyond academic excellence, young people must cultivate the resilience, curiosity and leadership capabilities required to drive meaningful change,” Arorote said.

“Africa’s greatest opportunity lies in the ability of its young people to transform challenges into sustainable solutions.”

Sahara Group said its participation in ET360 aligns with its commitment to nurturing future-ready leaders through partnerships with educational institutions.

The company said initiatives such as the Sahara School of Innovation and Extrapreneurship, entrepreneurship-focused programmes and other learning platforms developed with UNILAG are equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and networks needed to succeed while contributing to Africa’s sustainable energy future.
