CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso Meets IMF’s Kristalina Georgieva at the 2025 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington

In a key moment for Nigeria’s economic diplomacy, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, who led the Nigerian delegation, met with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, during the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) meeting held as part of the 2025 Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington, D.C.

The meeting underscored Nigeria’s active engagement in global financial discussions, especially as developing economies navigate inflationary pressures, fiscal adjustments, and evolving monetary policies worldwide.

During the session, Mr. Cardoso highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to stabilize its currency, strengthen monetary policy frameworks, and rebuild investor confidence through transparency and discipline in foreign exchange management. He also reaffirmed the CBN’s commitment to maintaining price stability while supporting sustainable economic growth.

Ms. Georgieva, on her part, commended Nigeria’s recent policy reforms and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the IMF and Nigeria to ensure macroeconomic resilience and inclusive development.

The Annual Meetings serve as a global platform where central bankers, finance ministers, and policymakers discuss international economic trends and strategies for global financial stability. For Nigeria, this engagement signals a renewed commitment to monetary reform, fiscal discipline, and global economic cooperation.

As the discussions continue in Washington, Nigeria’s presence at the IMFC reaffirms its intention to align domestic economic policies with global best practices and attract sustainable investment for long-term growth.
