Vice President Kashim Shettima yesterday visited victims of Monday night’s multiple explosions in Maiduguri, his Borno home State, assuring that the Federal Government will decisively confront the perpetrators.

At the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital(UMTH), where some of the injured victims are receiving treatment, Shettima declared that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration remained resolute in its commitment to ending terrorism in the country.

He assured that the attacks would not weaken the government’s determination to secure the nation.

Shettima was accompanied by Deputy Governor of the State, Usman Kadafur; National Emergency Management Agency Director-General Zubaida Umar, UMTH Chief Medical Director Ahmed Ahijo, and senior government officials.

Before the visit to the ancient city, Shettima mourned the 23 dead persons during the closing of the Annual Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque, Abuja.

He said in Maiduguri that the government was ramping up investments in military equipment and logistics to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

Shettima condemned the attacks, describing the perpetrators as persons who have “forfeited their place in the human race.”

“It is a tragedy because no religion sanctions the killing of the innocent,” the Vice President stated. “But this madness called Boko Haram will not live to see the light of day. Be assured that no matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of the dawn.”

He extended the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the government and people of Borno State and entire Northeast.

He said his visit was to demonstrate government’s solidarity with the people of Borno State in the aftermath of the tragedy.

“I am here to sympathise with the injured and families affected by this unfortunate incident. The Federal Government stands firmly with you in this difficult time,” the Vice President said.
