The Student Union Government (SUG) at Osun State University has officially intervened in the campus transportation crisis by releasing a comprehensive new fare structure for the Osogbo campus. This move, which was announced on March 10, 2026, serves as a binding agreement between the student body and commercial transporters to prevent the arbitrary overcharging of students following recent surges in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). The union clarified that these specific rates were negotiated based on a fuel price benchmark of ₦1,200 per liter and are subject to review should market conditions change significantly.

Under the new guidelines, a trip from Olayanju to the school gate now carries a fixed rate of ₦400 for a single passenger, while a "two-person" arrangement is set at ₦600 to provide a more economical option for students traveling in pairs. For those moving from the Second Gate to the main campus area, the fare has been pegged at ₦300 for individuals and ₦400 for two people. Shorter commutes within the campus "Downtown" area are now ₦100 per person, though trips extending beyond the TETFund buildings attract a slightly higher fee of ₦150.

The SUG has also addressed specialized routes to ensure consistency across the board. For instance, the journey from the Second Gate to the Urban and Regional Planning (URP) department is now ₦400 for a single rider and ₦500 for two. Furthermore, the union has standardized sitting arrangements for various vehicle types to ensure student safety and comfort; shuttle buses are expected to adhere to a 4-3-2 seating configuration for routes like Isale Osun, which now costs ₦500.

Students have been strongly advised by the union leadership to keep this fare schedule handy and adhere strictly to the approved prices to avoid unnecessary friction with drivers. The SUG emphasized that any transporter found demanding fees above these official rates should be reported to the Director of Transport for immediate disciplinary action. This proactive measure by the student leadership has been widely welcomed on campus as a necessary cushion against the rising cost of living currently affecting the Nigerian student population.
