Afe Babalola University’s (ABUAD) Investment in Human Capital

Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) dominated educational headlines following a massive announcement made during the University’s Staff Congress on January 26, 2026. In an unprecedented move for a private institution, the Founder, Aare Afe Babalola, approved a "jumbo salary package" for both academic and administrative staff. The increase was strategically designed to align with new federal salary structures and help staff navigate current inflationary pressures.

The impact of this investment was felt clearly on March 12, 2026, during the induction ceremony for the 8th set of medical doctors at the ABUAD College of Medicine. The Vice-Chancellor revealed that 26 of the new inductees earned a staggering 64 distinctions between them, a feat described as a record-breaking performance in Nigerian medical education. These twin developments—the salary surge announced in late January and the academic excellence witnessed this March—underscore ABUAD’s strategy of heavy reinvestment into its people to maintain its status as one of Africa’s premier private universities.
