NYSC is not only about wearing khaki, reporting to your PPA and counting down to POP. One thing you can quietly build during your service year is your professional network. The people you meet at your PPA, CDS, camp, workshops and even through other corps members could become useful connections long after your service year ends.

Here are a few simple ways to build your network:

1: Get to know people beyond just saying “good morning” at work.

2: Connect with colleagues and professionals in your field.

3: Keep in touch with people you meet during your service year.

4: Don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn from people with more experience.

5: Attend trainings, workshops and professional events when you can.

NOTE: Networking is not about knowing everybody. It’s about building genuine relationships that can grow over time.

WHAT CORPS MEMBERS SHOULD KNOW BEFORE THE FINAL STRETCH

As the end of your service year gets closer, one thing you don’t want to overlook is your NYSC clearance. After months of reporting to your PPA, attending CDS and carrying out your service responsibilities, the final stretch is not the time to become careless. Make sure you stay updated with your clearance requirements and keep track of any documents or records you may need. Also, ensure that your PPA and other relevant obligations are properly sorted out before the end of your service year.

A little preparation now can save you from unnecessary stress when POP finally arrives.

If you’re approaching the end of your service year, use this period to check the following:

📌 Confirm that your required clearances are up to date

📌 Keep your important NYSC documents safe

📌 Stay informed about final instructions from NYSC

📌 Follow up on anything you may still need to resolve

📌 Avoid leaving important tasks until the last minute

Thanks to everyone who entered the PPA From Hell challenge. We received 23 entries and they were genuinely hard to choose between. Parents storming staff rooms, villages without light for fifteen years, and a goat-feeding rota nobody warned you about. Choosing the top 3 was really difficult.

The NYSC Registration Portal is currently showing an active registration window for Batch C, 2026, alongside an online remobilization application for eligible corps members.

Your NYSC journey comes with quite a number of important documents, and losing any of them can sometimes create unnecessary stress.

From the beginning of your service year, make sure you keep your important NYSC documents safe and have digital copies where possible.

Some documents you should pay attention to include:

1: Call-up letter

2: Green card

3: NYSC ID card

4: PPA posting/Acceptance documents

5: Monthly clearance records

6: CDS related documents

7: Final clearance documents

8: Certificate of National Service after POP

Tip: Don't just rely only on physical copies. Keep clear digital copies in a secure email, cloud storage or another safe location.

Your service year is temporary, but some of these documents may be useful even after NYSC.

The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has approved the expulsion of six 100-Level students found guilty of gross examination misconduct after they paid a lecturer to let them re-write an exam at his private residence. In a separate action, the Senate also approved the withdrawal of nine other students over poor academic performance and failure to register for two consecutive semesters.

The decisions were taken at the University’s 167th Regular Meeting of Senate, held at the University Auditorium.

How the Malpractice Was Uncovered

On 1 July 2026, University Management moved on credible intelligence that a lecturer was coordinating students to re-write an examination at his home. Security operatives arrested Dr Maji Okpanachi of the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, along with a number of students, at his residence near the Police Area Command Office on Idah Road, Anyigba. Exhibits were recovered from the scene.

The case was referred to the University’s Examination Misconduct Committee, which corroborated the security report through confessional statements from both the lecturer and the students, as well as other records. The committee found that the students had re-written BOT102 (Introduction to Plant Science) days after the original exam, each paying Dr Okpanachi N10,000 for the arrangement.

Senate approved the expulsion of the following students of the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology:

Itodo Ojonugwa Jeremiah – 26PL1071

Olloh Kizito Ojoajogwu – 26PL1033

Okpanachi Favour – 26PL1065

Abdulkadiri Senusi – 26PL1031

Umar Imran – 26PL1038

Lawrence Salami – 26PL1124

Dr Okpanachi has been referred to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for further disciplinary action under the University’s established rules. A ninth case, involving Jude Ojoajogwu Itodo (26PL1068), was referred back to the Examination Misconduct Committee for further investigation.

In a related but unconnected matter, Senate approved the withdrawal of nine students on academic grounds.

Withdrawn for failing to register for two consecutive semesters:

Suleiman Salamatu – 22SC1059, Social Studies Education

Abdullahi Hossana – 21BF1003, Banking and Finance

Anaja Victor Anome – 21BF1043, Banking and Finance

Emmanuel Arome – 21BF1075, Banking and Finance

Odutola Nancy Oluwanifemi – 21BF1138, Banking and Finance

Olarewaju Segun Abayomi – 21BF1147, Banking and Finance

Withdrawn for poor academic performance:

7. Adam Safiyat – 24MC1065, Communication and Media Studies

8. Musa Favour – 24MC1086, Communication and Media Studies

9. Umolo John Philip – 24MC1192, Communication and Media Studies

Reacting to the decisions, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to academic excellence, discipline, integrity and quality assurance, stressing that PAAU would not tolerate any act that compromises the credibility of its academic and examination processes.

He commended the committees involved for what he described as thorough and painstaking investigations, saying the outcome underscored the University’s resolve to strengthen accountability and protect the integrity of its academic system. Prof. Usman also urged students to remain focused on their studies, maintain high standards of conduct, and comply fully with the University’s academic and examination regulations.

The affected students have been directed to surrender all University property in their possession, including identity cards and other official items, before exiting the institution.

“Angelina, I’m not interested in the size or colour of your urine!”

My PPA experience would be incomplete without the story of the individual I happened to share a room with at the corps members’ lodge provided for us.

Her name is Angelina.

We came from camp together. The Catholic corps members had arranged transportation for us, and, like many of us, we had expectations that we will be posted to some relatively familiar town where civilization still had a fighting chance.

Instead, we found ourselves in villages whose names sounded like incantations.

But that was not even my problem.

My real problem began the moment I stepped into the room.

There she was, using a pee bucket she had apparently brought with her from camp.

I looked at the bucket.

Then I looked at her.

Then I looked at the bucket again.

Within me, I was asking the most important question of the moment: Why in the room?

Why not the rest room?

But it was my first day, and I didn't want to start establishing unnecessary rules before I had even properly settled in. So I kept quiet.

What happened next would become one of my most valid reasons for crashing out.

“Come and see. My urine is now full and pure. I can't believe I'm this healthy!”

For a moment, time stopped.

You know those moments when your brain refuses to process what your ears have just heard?

That was me.

Did she just invite me…?

To what exactly?

Was I being invited to an unceremonious festival of urine?

I stood there, trying to reconcile the person I had just met with the confidence with which she had presented me with this information.

And somehow, that was only the beginning.

Because if there is anything I have learnt from my PPA experience, it is that sometimes, the people you meet become a bigger part of your NYSC story than the actual place you were posted to.

Living with Angelina came with its own collection of escapades, strange conversations, unexpected adventures, laughter, confusion, and moments where I genuinely had to ask myself, “How did I end up here?”

There were days when the lodge felt less like accommodation and more like a live-action comedy series.

There were experiences I could never have predicted before leaving camp, and there were moments that, if I narrated them exactly as they happened, you would probably think I was lying.

But then again, that is the beauty of NYSC.

There are still shackles around my ankles, and I know better than to tell the entire story while I am still inside the system.

But watch out.

In about three months, when I am finally out of these shackles and have regained full freedom of speech, I am pretty sure I will be writing a book.

And if I do, Angelina will have a chapter of her own.

Actually…

She might need several chapters.
