Here are a few things to prepare for:

📌 Registration: Keep your required documents ready. You'll need them for the different stages of camp registration.

📌 Accommodation: Find out your assigned hostel and bed space. Keep your belongings organised and secure.

📌 Orientation activities: Be prepared for instructions, announcements and information about camp rules and daily routines.

📌 Getting familiar with camp: Locate important places such as the clinic, mammy market, parade ground and registration points.

📌 Meeting people: You'll meet people from different backgrounds and states. Be friendly, respectful and open to making new connections.

Remember, everyone is adjusting too. Don't panic if everything feels unfamiliar at first. Take things one step at a time and pay attention to official instructions.

So this is where we are now in Federal University Gusau?

A cult member threatened a fellow student who happens to be a soldier.

That soldier didn't fight back alone. He reported to other soldiers on campus who are also students like us.

What followed was pure chaos. The soldiers had to put on their full military uniforms, came into the campus with rifles, not to shoot, but to give a serious warning and teach the cultists a lesson.

Imagine students running because soldiers with rifles entered the campus. All because management has refused to address cultism.

If management had acted early when we started complaining about cult threats and intimidation, it would never have reached the point where soldiers have to wear uniform inside school to feel safe.

Today it's a warning, tomorrow what will it be? Gunshots on campus?

We are students. FUG is supposed to be a school, not a barracks and not a cult base.

Management needs to act NOW before this turns into something we cannot control.

1. Call for a security meeting immediately

2. Fish out cult members threatening other students

3. Protect ALL students - whether civilian or military

We want to study in peace.

There was this one lecturer I had, and honestly, I don't think I've fully recovered from having his class on my timetable.

Imagine having a 7 AM lecture, and this man meant business when he said 7 AM. By 7:10, the door was closed. Locked. That was it. You could stand outside and explain your entire life story; you weren't getting in.

And the funny thing was, I stayed inside the school, so I didn't even have the excuse of trekking from outside campus. I had to make sure I was up, ready and seated before this man arrived.

But if you thought that was the hardest part, wait until you saw his exam questions.

I don't know what he expected us to do with some of those questions, but sometimes, you'd leave the exam hall wondering whether you actually attended the same lectures as everyone else.

Between the strict attendance, the early morning classes and the exams, I honestly felt like I was serving a sentence.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had this experience.

FUOYE students, who's that one lecturer whose name alone made you sit up straight? The one whose class you dared not miss and whose exams you needed prayers and preparation for?

We won't mention names, but we know you know someone.

‎When I was in university, there was a guy in our hostel who always woke up around 5 a.m. Every morning, he would dress neatly, pack his bag and leave before most of us were even awake. He always had food, clean clothes and somehow never needed to borrow money. We assumed his family was wealthy or that some rich uncle was sponsoring him.

‎One morning, out of curiosity, I decided to follow him. I was shocked when I discovered that he wasn't going anywhere special. He was working at a bakery. He would work early in the morning, finish his shift, clean up, change into his school clothes and head straight to lectures. He kept it hidden because he didn't want people mocking him for working while studying.

‎

‎While some of us were sleeping or complaining about how difficult university life was, this guy was quietly sacrificing his comfort to build something for himself. He worked throughout his university years and saved as much as he could. By graduation, while many of us were busy searching for jobs, he already had money saved to start a small food business.

‎

‎He started small, but he stayed consistent. Today, that same guy owns three restaurants. The person we thought was simply enjoying life because he had a rich uncle was actually working harder than most of us we just didn't know it.

‎

‎That experience taught me something I'll never forget: never laugh at someone's humble beginning. You don't know what someone is sacrificing behind closed doors or what they're quietly building for the future.

‎

‎Have you ever underestimated someone because of where they started, only to be surprised by where they eventually ended up?

Getting your NYSC call-up letter is exciting, but preparing for camp goes beyond packing clothes and buying toiletries.

Before leaving home, make sure you have these essentials in place:

📌 Your documents: Print your call-up letter, green card and other required documents. Keep them safely in a waterproof folder.

📌 Your finances: Have some money available for transportation, feeding and unexpected expenses.

📌 Personal essentials: Pack comfortable clothes, toiletries, medications you need and other basic items allowed in camp.

📌 Travel plans: Confirm your camp location, transport arrangements and how long your journey will take.

📌 Family and emergency contacts: Keep important phone numbers accessible and let someone at home know your travel plans.

Most importantly, don't wait until the last minute before getting everything ready. A little preparation can make your journey to camp much easier.

After the long break, the gates of FUG are open again and the campus is coming back to life. Hostels are filling up, lecture halls are getting ready, and that fresh resumption energy is everywhere.

As we start this new semester/session, here are 3 quick reminders:

1. Start Early: Don't wait till test or exam week. That carryover you want to avoid starts now. Attend lectures from week one.

2. Set One Goal: Don't do too much. Just set one clear goal for this semester - whether it's to improve your CGPA, learn a skill, or be more serious spiritually.

3. Stay Focused: Distractions will come, but remember why you came. Your parents, your future, and your God are counting on you.

To all Freshers - congratulations. To all final year students - this is your last lap, make it count.

Let's talk about ambition in marriage.

I came across a situation where a woman was seriously considering leaving her marriage because, according to her, her husband lacked ambition.

Now, this wasn't a man who abandoned his responsibilities.

According to her, her husband provides for the family, supports her, is a good father and even participates in household chores. He is not the type of man who leaves all the domestic responsibilities to his wife.

But there is something about him she cannot stand: He is comfortable!

He has a job, earns his money, takes care of his responsibilities and seems satisfied with the life he has built.

But his wife wants MORE.

She wants a man who wakes up thinking about business opportunities, who wants to own companies, expand his income, take financial risks and constantly dream of a bigger life.

And before you ask, what those she bring to the table?!

yes, she earns more than he does.

But she literally contribution nothing when it comes to finances in the house.

My question is why do some women create problems where there is none🤧?!

Forget fancy restaurants Sometimes, the best food you'll ever eat is tucked away in a corner of your campus, served in a takeaway pack, and sold at a price your student budget can handle.

That jollof rice that makes you forget your problems for a minute? The noodles you keep craving at midnight? Or that shawarma that has you coming back for more, even when you promised yourself you'd try somewhere else?

FUOYE students, we need to put your food plug on the map!

For me, it's Krislaw! Their food is delicious, the prices are pocket-friendly, and I've gone back several times for a reason.

Nobody really talks about how difficult it can be to balance school and the pressure of figuring out your future.

- Urue-Offong/Oruko LGA, Akwa Ibom: Additional ₦20,000 monthly for corps members serving in the area.

The most painful or difficult experience students face in university. 👀🎓

So this woman is divorcing her husband, and the reason got me really thinking.

The husband doesn't do ANYTHING in the house. The wife does all the cleaning, laundry, cooking, and takes care of the children. The wife thought maybe it's because he couldn't do them and wasn't brought up that way.

This was her consolation.

However, the husband entered the kitchen one of these days and started cooking.

The woman was even happy that her husband had changed and all, only for the husband to package the food to take out of the house. When he was asked who the food was for, he said it was for his female colleague at work who wasn't feeling too well.

This infuriated the woman and demeaned her so badly.

The woman feels if he can't cook for his own wife and family and do anything at home but could, without hesitation, cook for a female friend at work, then the marriage isn't even worth it.

Do you think she took it too far?!

When Faith started her service year, she had big expectations. She hoped to gain experience, make useful connections, and discover new opportunities. But things didn't go as planned. Her PPA was stressful, her efforts often went unnoticed, and she constantly felt like she wasn't learning anything valuable. Each day, she wondered if her service year would amount to anything.

At some point, she considered giving up on trying to make the most of it. Then one day, a senior colleague noticed her dedication and encouraged her to apply for an opportunity she thought was beyond her reach.

“I think you're capable of more than you realize. Give yourself a chance,” he told her.

Those words changed something in Faith. She updated her CV, applied, and eventually got selected for a professional training opportunity. For the first time in months, she felt hopeful about her future. Her service year wasn't suddenly perfect, but she learned that sometimes, all it takes is one person to remind you of what you can become.

Sometimes, the encouragement someone gives you during a difficult season can change the direction of your life.

To every corps member who feels stuck or overlooked, don't give up on yourself. Your current situation doesn't have to determine what comes next.
